Earth Day, for us, is a time to take a step back and reflect on how our actions take impact on the environment, and hold ourselves accountable to the shared responsibility in bettering our planet. We can make a difference with even the smallest of actions such as – actively recycling used plastics, making a conscious choice of what we use, how we use it, and being mindful of our actions. This Earth Day, we revisit our philosophy – Embracing the Environment, Empowering People to inspire us to make a difference in creating a quality environment for all.
We believe that sustainability extends beyond protecting the environment, but also empowering the communities we work with. As the retail arm of Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, we seek to combine art with social responsibility. We work closely with village artisans to produce our craft collection. They have inspired us with the truth that craft isn’t only about the intricate details and aesthetics, but also the culture, heritage and time-honoured skills passed down from generation to generation. Craft embodies stories and preserves heritage, it is a form of language that bridges cultural differences.
Through working with the artisan communities in Southeast Asia to design and produce a range of craft products, we help them to realise a sustainable source of income and share the traditions behind the handmade creations to the world. What means the most to us though, isn’t just bringing the cultures and stories to light, but being able to conserve the unique heritage of craft and empowering the makers to make the art of craft a viable business again.
With the various environmental challenges and climate changes happening in the world, we strongly believe in the importance of taking active steps towards conservation. We choose to keep our products entirely free of chemicals or materials that are known to pose harm. There are no parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates (SLS), or sodium lauryl ether sulfates (SLES) in any of our product ranges. We are also actively phasing out the usage of synthetic fragrances and colourants. To protect our biodiversity, our blends are cruelty-free and never tested on animals. Lastly, we seek to reduce any unnecessary packaging by using PET recyclable plastic for our products which can be recycled more than once.
It is our belief that sustainability is a journey of collective efforts, and every step taken towards that creates a positive ripple effect – no matter how small. As we celebrate Earth Day, we would like to thank you for sharing and continuing this journey with us.
